Axe Murders Of Villisca, The
Shout FactoryOn a June night in 1912, the peaceful town of Villisca suffered an unfathomable crime. Eight people - a mother, father, their four children, and two guests - were murdered by an axe-wielding killer in a case that remains unsolved to this day. A century later, Caleb (Robert Adamson) and gay best friend and secret admirer Denny (Jarrett Sleeper), two buddies who share an interest in ghost hunting, sneak into the house where the infamous bloodbath occurred. When Caleb invites along Jess (Alex Frnka), the troubled new girl in school, Denny becomes extremely jealous. The bigger problem, though, is the supernatural waiting to write the next chapter in the home's bloody history.
Reasons to Buy
- Over a century ago, the unspeakable happened. Will history repeat itself? Witness a new horror story inspired by the bone-chilling true crime events that shocked a nation.
- The Axe Murders of Villisca has a thoughtful gay subplot that's rare in horror films. On the topic, screenwriter Owen Egerton said that growing up gay in a small town is "a lot scarier than a shadow moving in a dark corridor."
- The three leads are all excellent in their respective roles. This is a horror movie that cares about its characters. It's also cool to see a genre film built around a gay-straight high school friendship.
