French painter and cabaret owner Francis Savel (under the pseudonym Deitrich de Velsa) directed this 1980 gay porn film about a motorcycle-riding loner who has several sexual encounters. It has been lost for quite some time but our friends at Altered Innocence found it and are releasing it on DVD and Blu ray.

"Equation to the Unknown" is considered a masterpiece of gay erotic cinema. It is about a handsome young stud who rides his motorcycle through many and varied sexual encounters including a soccer game's locker room and an unsettling orgy where the film reaches its melancholic climax.

It has been "newly scanned in 2K from the original camera negative and directed with absolute grace by the mysterious Dietrich de Velsa (also known as Francis Savel and Frantz Salieri)." He was once painter and the owner and artistic director of one of the first queer cabarets of Paris, "La Grande Eugene". Later, he collaborated with Joseph Losey on "Mr. Klein" and "Don Giovanni". This is his only film and it is thought to be one of the best French gay adult films ever made.

The erotic gay fantasies follow the hot motorcyclist through his melancholic fantasies. The acting is adequate considering as it the production value, which is on point. The lack of sex and musical score, however, weaken the film even with its ultra-explicit sex scenes.

This special edition includes "Remembering the Equation", a video essay about the film by "+Heart" director Yann Gonzalez (this is his favorite film); "Diary of a Fight", a short film narrated by Alain Delon (who starred in "Mr. Klein" featuring director Francis Savel (the real name of Dietrich da Velsa); the original 1980 film trailer; a brand-new theatrical trailer; a vintage Jean Daniel Cadinot centerfold poster featuring sexy lead actor Gianfranco Longhi and more. This is a must for serious LGBTQ film collectors.
